2. วิธีการเชื่อมประโยค Reported Speech เข้ากับประโยคนำ

2.1สำหรับการพูดทวนประโยคคำถาม (Reporting of Questions) รายละเอียดที่จะเปลี่ยนแปลงในประโยคที่ถูกพูดทวนคือลำดับของคำในประโยค เช่น ในตัวอย่างที่ 6 และ 7 โดยมีหลักดังนี้คือ

- กริยาของประโยคจะถูกย้ายไปอยู่หลังประธาน
- เครื่องหมายคำถาม (Question Mark) จะถูกตัดออกไป
- จะใช้ “if” หรือ “whether” เป็นตัวเชื่อมในประโยคคำถามที่ให้ตอบรับหรือปฏิเสธ

6. Alice said, “What is the time?”
Alice asked what the time was.
7. Tom said, “May I go home now?”
Tom asked if he might go home now.

2.2 สำหรับการพูดทวนประโยคขอร้องและประโยคคำสั่ง (Reporting of Requests and Commands) จะใช้ Infinitive with “to” เชื่อมประโยคขอร้อง หรือประโยคคำสั่งนั้นเข้ากับประโยคนำ เช่นในตัวอย่างที่ 8 และ 9

8. Mary said to her sister, “Pass me the sugar, please.”
Mary requested her sister to pass her the sugar.
9. The teacher said to the students, “Be quiet.”
The teacher ordered the students to be quiet.
